It’s that time of year where the weather starts getting warmer and flowers begin to bloom. Here are a few books that will teach your little one about the changes in nature that occur in spring!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar By Eric Carle
In Eric Carle’s modern classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Philomel 1981), a caterpillar eats through a multitude of snacks, including an entire piece of chocolate cake, cherry pie and the pages of the book itself! The delightful illustrations have a hole through each piece of food as the caterpillar eats through them. This is a great story to teach your children the days of the week and they never tire of the metamorphosis story of the caterpillar.
Jonathan Jasper Jeremy Jones By Bernice C. Holland; illustrated by Duane Hoffmann.
Jonathan Jasper Jeremy Jones (Storytellers Ink 1994), written by Bernice C. Holland and illustrated by Duane Hoffmann, tells the tale of another caterpillar on his journey to become a butterfly. The rhyming text describes the dangers he encounters such as a hungry robin and a sneaky snake. Children will enjoy the bright pictures and the beautiful butterfly at the end of the story.
